POSTER SOCHIAS 2017: Blazars study with the 40m telescope
Blazars are a type of Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN), characterized by the emission of a relativistic jet that points close to our line of sight. They are extremely powerful, variable emitters from radio to gamma-ray wavelengths. By cross-correlating light-curves from different energies, it is possible to determine the physical condition of the blazar emitting region, i.e. mechanism, morphology, distance from block hole to the actual emission, etc. In 2007, the 40m telescope at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) embarked on a new research campaign. In support of the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, the OVRO 40m telescope is monitoring more than 1800 blazars twice per week. In 2014, a new Ku-band spectropolarimeter receiver, KuPol, was installed on the 40m telescope with the aim of elucidating about potential spectral fluctuations that may arise during the flaring events. In this poster, we will present relevant information and preliminar results from KuPol and the actual status of its calibration, and also as well as the current state of the PSD analysis, where we are applying Fourier Transform to the signals.

Investigating the Motion of a High Speed Projectile Moving Through a Liquid
This investigation explores the conditions under which an object, moving through a liquid in high speed, has the greatest deceleration. The conditions focused on are the mass of the object, its initial velocity and its entry angle into the liquid. This is achieved through shooting pellets of varied masses and energies out of two different soft guns at a water container, recording them with a high speed camera and mapping their motion with a tracking program. The results of the experiment indicate that the lesser the mass of the object, the greater its deceleration in the fluid. The initial velocity and the entry angle of the object do not influence the rate of its speed loss. It is further explored that as the density of the fluid becomes greater, so does the deceleration of the object. The investigation is intended to deepen the understanding of the high speed motion through a medium.

This simulation plan aims to explain and document all steps to be taken in the simulation
analysis of the Fokker-100 case. This case is the scenario in which the aircraft touches the
ground during landing, introducing loads on the landing gear. The landing gear consists of
2 rear gears around mid-span and one in the front. Furthermore, the pilot uses the rudder
which induces a lateral force on the tail.
As stated in the assignment, it is required to find the maximum normal stress and location
of this in the fuselage, the maximum shear stress and its location in the fuselage, and the
flow in the frames that introduce the loads from the landing gears into the
