Overview

Some departments at Umeå University have decided to provide Overleaf Professional features for their employees who would like to use a collaborative, online LaTeX editor for their projects. Overleaf Professional features include real-time track changes, unlimited collaborators, and full document history.

Overleaf is designed to make the process of writing, editing and producing your research papers and project reports much quicker for both you and your collaborators. Overleaf can also be linked to other services to best fit into your workflow.

The departments currently covered by this license are:

  • Department of Computing Science
  • Department of Physics
  • Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics

Employees at other departments can login with Single Sign-On, but will not receive Overleaf Professional features.

Claim your Overleaf Professional upgrade by signing up (or signing in) below.

You'll need to link your account to your Umeå University single sign-on (Umu-id SSO).

Acceptable usage

Do not write or store sensitive data or personal identifiable information (PII) of other people without their consent.

Names and emails of yourself and your co-authors is acceptable use.

For Researchers

Find a journal template

Through our partnerships within the publishing community, we provide a selection of academic journal templates for articles and papers. These templates automatically format your manuscripts in the style required for submission to that journal.

 

Edit in Visual Editor mode or directly in LaTeX

Overleaf provides an intuitive and easy-to-use manuscript editor (our Visual Editor mode), which is especially useful if you or your co-authors aren't familiar with writing in LaTeX.

 

If you prefer to edit directly in LaTeX, you can! Overleaf provides a full collaborative online LaTeX editor you can switch to at any time.

 

Submitting your articles to journals, repositories and more

You can also submit your paper directly to a number of journals and other editorial and review services via the publish menu in the editor. Simply open the publish menu from any document and follow the appropriate 'Submit to ...' link.

Who can use Overleaf under the Umeå University license?

The license provides Overleaf Professional feature for employees at the following departments:

  • Department of Computing Science
  • Department of Physics
  • Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics

Employees at other departments can link their accounts and login with Umu-id SSO, but will not receive Overleaf Professional features.


I'm a student, can I use Overleaf?

The license agreement covers employees at specific departments (CS, Physics, MaMS), students are not included. You can however of course still sign up and use the Free plan.


Are there any restrictions with using Overleaf in my work?

As with all cloud services: Do not write or store sensitive or personal identifiable information (PII) of other people without their consent.

Names and emails of yourself and your co-authors is generally acceptable use.


I'm an employee at one of the licensed departments, but my account did not get upgraded to Overleaf Professional when logging in, what should I do?

You must have a first.last@umu.se email address setup on your Umu-id account to be enrolled into the Overleaf subscription, talk to your HR or department administrator if you do not have one.


My employment is ending, what happens with my Overleaf account?

When your employment ends your Overleaf Professional account will revert to the Free plan.

Please ensure you add a private email address and make it your primary before losing access to SSO so that you're able to access the account without access to your first.last@umu.se email address.

My department wants to pay to be included in the license agreement

Contact the Department of Computing Science IT-Support for discussion.

Note that it's not possible to add individual employees from other departments to this license, for such usage you can purchase Individual or Group subscriptions from Overleaf directly.
