"I have enjoyed using Overleaf and found it to be very helpful in my work. I especially like the user interface, the availability of numerous templates, and tracking of version history."

    – Jonathan Young

Jonathan is a graduate student in the Center for Systems and Synthetic Biology at the University of Texas at Austin, and we recently asked him about his work and his experiences using Overleaf as part of our author interview series.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?

I am a graduate student in computational biology working on prediction of candidate drug targets for cancer.

What are the biggest challenges you face in your work?

Well, the biggest challenges have been finding the right projects and publishing papers.

How did you first find out about Overleaf?

I found out about Overleaf as I am working on submitting a manuscript to the G3 journal, which has a LaTeX template hosted on Overleaf. I am actually one of the few people in my lab who uses LaTeX…just about everyone I work around is firmly entrenched with Microsoft Office. Personally, I think that having easy access to journal manuscript templates and submission from Overleaf is a huge plus.

How have you used Overleaf in your individual work and/or collaborations?

So far, I have used Overleaf in writing manuscripts for publication and my CV. I plan to use it for my dissertation and future publications as well.

What's next for you and your work?

Next up for me are graduation and finding employment.

In summary, how would you describe Overleaf in one sentence?

Overleaf is a fantastic user-friendly LaTeX environment that is great for writing documents from resumes to journal publications.

Many thanks for taking the time to answer these questions - we wish you all the best after graduation, and in your submission to G3!
